Just 12 days after her dream wedding, Rute Cardoso, the wife of Portuguese football star Diogo Jota, was seen in utter grief as she left the morgue where her husband’s and brother-in-law’s bodies lay. The couple, who had been together for nearly a decade and had three young children, officially tied the knot in late June. Rute once described it as a dream come true, sharing radiant photos in her white wedding gown just days before the unimaginable loss.
On the night of July 3, Diogo Jota a star forward for Liverpool FC and the Portuguese national team—was involved in a fatal car crash on Spain’s notorious A-52 highway near Zamora. He was driving a Lamborghini with his younger brother, André Silva, when the car’s tire reportedly burst while overtaking. The vehicle veered off, crashed into a ditch, and caught fire. Both brothers died at the scene, with bodies so badly charred that identification became a challenge.
